Whilst all children are loved and cared for equally by their parents and their teachers, we understand that they are all different. All children are created in God's image and are therefore of equal worth in His view. Because Covenant College strives to be an inclusive school, we acknowledge that wherever possible all children can learn together regardless of differences and achieve their full potential.
Covenant College has a dedicated Education Support team to assist students at their point of need. This may include classroom assistance and withdrawal assistance in small groups or individually. Students who need modifications or adjustments to their curriculum will have an individual profile and an Individual Learning Plan created specifically for them. This may include academic, behavioural, social and emotional goals.
One program used on a needs basis to assist students is called Fast ForWord and develops and strengthens memory, attention, processing rate, and sequencing—the cognitive skills essential for reading and learning success. It also includes a wide range of critical language and reading skills such as phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, decoding, working memory, syntax and grammar.
From the MultiLit suite of programs, the College uses MiniLit and MacqLit to assist students from Year 1 onwards. This is done through targeted Reading Intervention in a small group setting.
